We’ve got great news for our existing and prospective clients! With the recent implementation of Amazon S3’s feature, Transfer Acceleration, WoodWing Swivle now boasts lightning-fast upload speeds over long distances thanks to optimized routing. For example, if you upload files in Hong Kong, and the WoodWing Swivle storage is hosted in Dublin, the data is transferred via an optimized path from the nearest Amazon data center. That makes the upload speed up to 3 times faster than before. “How is it possible?” or “Do I pay more?“, you may wonder. Good news: there are no extra costs for you!
For those who are not familiar with the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud storage terminology, here’s a bit of technical background. To make your storage available for a relatively affordable monthly fee, WoodWing Swivle holds an AWS Simple Storage Service partner license. In April 2016, Amazon introduced a new feature called Transfer Acceleration that speeds up file transfers using the AWS Edge Network (it merely means the nearest Amazon datacenter) over long distances in any geographical region.
Just like with CloudFront Acceleration, Amazon’s Content Delivery Network (CDN), the S3 Transfer Acceleration is based on the optimized file transfer routing: as files arrive at an edge location, the data is routed to S3 (in our case, to Swivle storage) using the optimized shortest path.
What does this mean for our clients? It means that wherever you are in the world, your upload speed is always fast and efficient. If you’re on a business trip in, say, Paraguay, you won’t see any difference in upload speed compared to your daily routine with WoodWing Swivle. You can upload files to, and download from Swivle with the same high speed regardless of your location.
